Subscriptions & billing

PawBeat is free to start, with an optional PawBeat Pro subscription. The available plans are:

PawBeat Pro Monthly - $5.99/month, with a 7-day free trial
PawBeat Pro Yearly - $29.99/year, with a 7-day free trial

The free tier includes the silent breathing counter, one pet, recent history and a basic PDF. Pro unlocks multiple pets, full history and trends, medication and episode management, the clinical report and the AI vet brief.

Where to find Pro in the app: Tap any locked feature or the Upgrade prompt (for example when adding a second pet or opening the clinical report) to open the subscription screen with the Monthly and Yearly options.

All payments and renewals are handled by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Counting your pet's breathing

Count while your pet is fully asleep (not dreaming), in a calm environment. One breath = one rise and fall of the chest. The counter is silent and works in the dark; tap along with the breaths and PawBeat computes breaths per minute and saves the reading automatically - even if a call interrupts you.

Threshold alerts

Your vet sets a sleeping breathing-rate target (commonly 30 breaths per minute). If two consecutive sleeping readings exceed it, PawBeat shows an alert with a one-tap call button for your vet. Alerts surface your own data - they are not a diagnosis. If your pet is in distress, contact your vet or an emergency clinic immediately.

Episode videos

Videos you record are stored only on your device and never uploaded anywhere - not even iCloud. They are there for you to show your vet.

Your data & iCloud

Readings, meds and notes sync through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) - we run no server that stores them. To erase everything, delete the app and its iCloud data. See our Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

The AI brief will not generate

Brief generation needs an internet connection and Sign in with Apple. If you have already generated one this calendar month, the next becomes available next month.

My readings are not syncing between devices

Make sure both devices are signed into the same iCloud account with iCloud Drive on. Episode videos intentionally do not sync.

I subscribed but Pro is locked

Open the paywall and tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the Apple ID you used to subscribe.
Frequently asked

Why does my vet want me to count sleeping breaths?

For dogs and cats with heart disease (such as MVD, DCM, HCM or CHF), the sleeping respiratory rate is one of the earliest signs of fluid building up. A rising trend is exactly what your vet wants to catch early.

Is PawBeat veterinary advice?

No. PawBeat records your own observations and surfaces them against the target your vet set. Decisions about diagnosis, medication and treatment always belong to your veterinarian.

What do I need to run PawBeat?

An iPhone on iOS 17 or later, and an iCloud account for sync.
